In this class, you’ll be working with the Sampler instrument – which hasn’t changed much at all since the first version of the Garageband App. It’s an instrument that can sample or load any sound you like and lets you play that sound on a keyboard at different pitches. There’s also a few ways that you can manipulate the sound including taking advantage of some Smart keyboard features like the chord strips and arpeggiator.

Background and history

Record your own sample
Have a go at recording your own sample.

Viewing and listening
Look and listen to your sample in the Sampler interface.

Trim

Reverse and/or loop playback of your sample.

Shape
Work with the Sampler’s basic amplitude envelope.
Change the decay, attack and release time.

Reset your sample by reverting it back to it’s natural state.

‘This song’ and ‘Library’
Understand and use the samples in ‘This song’ and the ‘Library’.
Also learn how to rename and delete samples.

Importing samples iTunes and File sharing locations.
Copying audio from a region in a song.

Other features
Utilising the smart keyboard features.
Adjusting input level and monitoring.

Limitations
Understand the limitations of the Sampler instrument.
